I cannot believe these situations are getting more frequent and severe. This is UNBELIEVABLE!
Is it a wonder students are bullying without remorse, much less consequences?
Please watch this concerning report. This is being hushed by the county schools for the most part:
What makes a teacher go ballistic? Are the students being respectful? Are the teachers being patient?

Why do kids bully? Low self esteem or a need for attention by others tend to be the common makeup of a bully. Bullying makes them feel better about themselves through the attention they receive from other classmates. They may get a thrill from the laughter it receives from surrounding students so they just continue to do it.
I strongly feel this is where a school counselor or teacher should step in when such behavior is taking place. It cannot be ignored or dealt with at a latter date. Sometimes the child being bullied has had just about as much as they can take and that one last thing could have been the final straw for them. It pains me to know that a child would even consider ending their life over this.
My son was happy and excited to be going into middle school. He was honored to find out that a fifth grade teacher had nominated him to work in the office as one of his electives. The duties included taking notes to the teacher during class and helping out around the office. About 2 weeks into school, he asked me if he could be transferred out of that class because he was being called names and things throw at him when he’d have to deliver notes to the teachers. He would tell me how bad it felt and he was so upset with the teachers because they would see the activity daily but never say a word to the students in their class. We were able to get him out of the class. The bullies and the teachers responsible had gotten away with it all, while my son was the one to suffer.
Months went by with constant stomach aches and dread of school but my son was strong and he continued to go until the heart palpitations began. His heart rate would race up towards and sometimes over 200 beats per minute. It was always just before or during lunch. I’d end up leaving work to pick him up and take him to the Emergency Room. He saw a Cardiologist for over a month running all sorts of tests which included him having to wear a heart monitor to school for 30 days. He would call me from the clinic daily to pick him up. I knew this wasn’t a case of physical problems but a case of stress due to school.
It was very hard for him to tell us what exactly was happening to him to cause him so much distress. Finally, one day after school he sat down with me and let it all out. He said he was ashamed of himself for not being able to handle it. I desperately wanted to know without pushing him what exactly “it” all was. What was being done to him at school that now had reduced him in tears and shame?
I can tell you what it was and will but if you knew my son and how nice he is, how he prays every night even though we’ve never taken him to church, how he has never once said a curse word on Xbox with all the others cursing up a storm, even his parents who sometime slip and curse, he just never did. He wouldn’t watch South Park if it was on because he felt it was wrong and bad. I didn’t raise him that way, that’s just how God has worked through him and made him. I couldn’t be prouder and wouldn’t change a thing. He has made me and my husband better people. He’s not the typical kid who you would think would be an easy target for bullies, which is my point here, no child is really safe. My son plays football, is so handsome he’s been in modeling magazines including Italian Vogue, he’s 6’2″, always wearing top name brands and treats all kids the same. However, since there is no typical “target” for a bully anymore, my son was chosen. The typical assaults consisted of older boys running up behind him in the halls where they would punch him on the back of the head and keep on running. In the lunch room he never ONCE made it through a meal without students throwing their melted nacho cheese on him or other food items in which my son would go to the bathroom, clean his clothes off and ultimately vomit over the humiliation. Teachers, lunchroom staff, counselors and even the nurse had to have known but not ONE person ever came forward to let me know what my son was going through. I wonder why? How could they sleep at night knowing a child was going through this. I blame myself for not realizing it but he kept it from us so well in fear of us being disappointed.
Because there is no “target” anymore public school staff have to be well in tune to ALL of the children and their actions. All kids are bait for the hungry bully. I will continue to be a voice to those who are afraid to speak out against this issue. Criminal assault and personal violation must be stopped in our public schools. My son will be homeschooled until or if we ever feel like public school is right for my son. Until then, I feel blessed to have such a warm welcome into the homeschooling program by Mrs. Tucker, what an amazing woman and blessed for my son who is finally relaxed, happy, healthy and able to learn!
