The county school board administrator told me that my child needs a FL state high school diploma if my child wants to, “go to college.” The administrator specifically said that my child, “will have to have a state diploma to be accepted by any college, or university.”<\/p>\n

The previous statement is what many county school board administrators, and most of the virtual school customer service personnel, tell parents, especially homeschool parent. This is so untrue!<\/p>\n

Does my homeschooled child need a high school diploma to go to college?<\/p>\n

No! By Florida law, no!\u00a0 However, since you are the “school official” you can create and sign your homeschooled student’s high school diploma.<\/p>\n

A diploma is a document that bears record of the completion of a course of study. When creating a diploma, include at minimum the following items:<\/p>\n

  1. statement that it is a high school diploma;<\/li>\n
  2. name of student;<\/li>\n
  3. statement that the student finished the program of secondary education required of him or her;<\/li>\n
  4. signature of the person who verifies that the student finished the program; and<\/li>\n
  5. date the diploma was issued or signed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
