I believe that the social time that my child spends with me questioning, sharing, exploring, failing, succeeding, learning and growing is priceless, and much more meaningful than any social time that any “expert” or “professional educator” says, or their statistics say,\u00a0 that they are giving him in their institution ordering him to copy this or log in on that, create this or play that.<\/p>\n

Curtis Tucker – Homeschooling Father \/ FL certified teacher – evaluator<\/strong><\/p>\n My child has super positive and productive social and instruction time with the undivided attention from a real professional musician for an hour as many times a week as I like, at whatever time of day is best for us without worrying about any other child distracting him or making fun of him. My child gets instructions from,\u00a0 and trains with, a professional athlete to learn dance, sports & gymnastics in a location where I am encouraged to observe and participate anytime, or all the time. Not only on certain days or with a week’s, or even a day’s notice. And I am never made to feel like I am an intruder or I am not welcome, or I have some kind of problem because I want to observe my child’s activities. Nor am I made to feel inferior and shunned when I want to ask questions or even give advise to the instructors and\/or administrators about my<\/strong><\/em><\/span> child’s individual needs or situation.<\/p>\n If I find that my child is having a conflict with another child on the team in his gymnastics class the coach actually listens to me, hears my opinion and desires, and actually incorporates my advice with their expertice to speak with the other child’s parent to solve the problem and may even move my child to another team, depending on what I want for the welfare of my child. And I heed the advice and opinion of the professional, or even volunteer coach, that handles issues in a respectful and understanding manner like most of the independent trainers, coaches and teachers do.<\/p>\n We do field trips to the hospital, the orchard, the veterinarian’s clinic, the court house, waterfront, etc., anywhere and anytime I want to take my child,\u00a0 especially the zoo or park where I can either participate with him or just step back, or out of the picture and let him socialize with the people there. Even going to the grocery store is a health, science, math and sometimes historical field trip for us filled with questions, answers, achievements, joy and sometimes conflict in which we learn together, grow closer and learn about academics and life. It all goes best together anyway.<\/p>\n My child won’t be rewarded for merely participating, learning that he gets anything for doing little to no achieving, especially for laziness and disobedience in the sports activites he is involved with. I won’t allow it and the coaches stand along side me in the training of my child or I move them to another facility easily which rarely happens with independent; volunteer or professional trainers or instructors.<\/p>\n My child isn’t treated like a number or a “product,” and he especially isn’t treated as just another warm body taking up space, breathing and polluting the air at the music and art lessons these professionals instruct him in. With my social time and sharing experiences with my child, learning and growing with my child he isn’t treated as some evolved little monkey or ameba. He is treated like a growing, learning little person with the potential to be who he needs and wants to be, to develop and share the gifts and talents that he has and enjoys while still learning and practicing activities and skills that are necessary that he doesn’t enjoy. But with patience, Love, firmness, consistency and consequences, enjoyable and not enjoyable consequences with care and purpose my child is excelling to his potential no matter what his ability levels are, because I know him best and he has the best schedule to experience, socialize and learn 14 hours a day 6 days a week. We are the best teachers he has and we care the most about his welfare. Enough to make the Right things happen for him even when he “falls,” to encourage him to pick himself up, or be there to help pick himself up, and appreciate the opportunities he has, and enjoy all the people that are around him everywhere.<\/p>\n My child is learning to be polite, helpful, hold an intelligent conversation, focus until finished without drugs and not worry about being bullied while becoming able to interact with a person of any age and mental level to understand them and relate to them and work through conflict where bullying isn’t even an option. Many homeschooled children have the most positive socialization of any educational forum in this country, or around the world.<\/p>\n That’s a key in social time and interaction; positive or not?
