Some certified teachers\u00a0say that homeschool students are required to take a standardized test for their annual educational evaluation. NOT!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some evaluators say that a homeschool student above the 6th grade level must have a several certified teachers evaluate their portfolio work samples, certified in each academic area. For example: a math certified teacher to evaluate the math work samples, and a certified language arts teacher to evaluate the reading\/writing work samples, etc. Wrong!<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am shocked!<\/strong> These “evaluators” saying these things are certified teachers that are listed as evaluators on websites by some Florida county school boards!<\/p>\n

What is going on? How can\u00a0some Florida county school boards be so misleading, and why are some\u00a0certified teachers so uninformed? These certified teachers are giving advice on education! I hate to say, but I must; many of these people (“teachers”)\u00a0are in the classroom with children, “leading and guiding” them, or they used to be. Now they are advising homeschool parents!<\/p>\n

Homeschool students are not<\/strong> REQUIRED <\/strong>to take any standardized test EVER<\/strong>. It is not required by law. The county school board cannot require a homeschool student to take a\u00a0standardized test when the state of Florida has\u00a0laws for homeschooling, that clearly state that one option,\u00a0from among 5 options,\u00a0to\u00a0fulfill the annual educational evaluation\u00a0required by law, is sending the county home education office a\u00a0standardized test results. That is a option, not a requirement!<\/p>\n

You can have a certified teacher give your home educated child a standardized test and send the results to the county home education office for your annual educational evaluation. You can also sign your child up to take a standardized test at a school in your county, if you choose<\/strong> those ways to fulfill the requirement of an annual educational evaluation. Most parents choose option # 1\u00a0 in the Florida state statute for home education which states a certified teacher is to review the home educated student’s work, and have a discussion with the student. That’s it, period,\u00a0to complete the annual educational evaluation, for any county in the state of Florida.<\/strong><\/p>\n
