Manatee County FL Home School Requirements – Annual Education Evaluation Form
I do a lot of annual education evaluations in EVERY county in Florida, including Manatee County, FL. I do annual education evaluations for all “grade levels,” kindergarten – 12th grade, in Manatee County, FL.
Briefly, on the subject of kindergarten; a child is not required to be registered (Letter of Intent to homeschool) until they are 6 years old, therefore their first annual education evaluation would not be due until the next year, when they are 7 years old; furthermore, determining, and stating the “grade level” on the home school annual evaluation is not required, by Florida law.
I do exactly what parents want. If the parent wants a standardized test, if the parent wants to show a grade level for their child on the home school annual education evaluation, and/or if the parent wants an evaluator to fill out the county annual education evaluation form, etc. I do it. It is the parent’s choice!

By Florida state Home Education law, no test is required. No forms are required. No grade level, nor are certain subjects required to be taught at certain ages, by law. It has been very difficult for me to believe all the freedom we have home schooling, especially having grown up in a family of professional public educators, and myself having taught full time for more than 10 years in public, private and, international schools, here in Florida and overseas. Because of ALL the freedom we have as homeschooling parents/home school directors, I will do exactly what parents want me to do; forms, grade levels, standardized test, portfolio review, etc. OR just the standard Home Education Form Letter that HSLDA & FPEA recommend for me to send to Manatee County. It is the parent’s (home school director’s) choice, completely!
The requirements for home schooling in FL are very simple, and are actually very few. For many reasons, (as stated above) the grade level is not required to be determined by an evaluator, nor is it required for the grade level of a student to be stated on the annual educational evaluation, by Florida state Home Education law. Just as the subjects studied by homeschool students are totally determined by the parents, NOT an evaluator, nor even by the Manatee County School board personnel, by FL Home Education law. A test is not required for the annual educational evaluation for homeschooling in Manatee County, FL, nor in any county in Florida, though, once again, as I have stated above, I will do whatever the parent desires.
